The Diver family is one of the oldest names in the Delaware automotive community, and probably has been selling and servicing cars since before you were born. After World War I, he acquired the Packard agency at 10th and King Street in downtown Wilmington. In 1935 his company moved to what was then the countryside, but now known as the current Pennsylvania Avenue location near Bancroft Parkway. A

t this time, they were selling and servicing Packards, Nash and Mack trucks. In 1937 he also became a Studebaker distributor and dealer along with Packard. The new facilities were built that became very prominent for the large showroom and huge selection. After World War II, he also became an appliance dealer to supplement the shortage of automobiles and trucks. His son Clifford joined the firm, followed by his three younger brothers, Arthur, Frank, Jr. and Richard. In 1952 they acquired the Chevrolet franchise which has consistently been ranked as one of the top performing dealerships in the region in both sales volume and customer satisfaction. The business is now managed by a third generation of family members and has continued to grow in different directions in spite of a devastating fire that burned the service and parts departments to the ground on June 10, 2000. A separate Used vehicle facility was opened in February 2001 on Greenhill Avenue and a new, state of the art, service and parts operation opened in 2002. Throughout Diver Chevrolet’s storied history, there is a closeness between customers, employees and the Diver family that remains the Diver hallmark of customer commitment today.
