Calm before the storm. Today's project. 002/091 Bus transmission. Weddle 4.13 r/p. Steel sleeved case. Bus into Bug gear carrier. New sliders, reverse gear, Super diff, cromoly diff cover, 930 cv flanges, cromoly pinion retainer, 300m torsional input shaft . Car is a super cool street car with a Dodge Neon SRT4 engine. Over 400hp.

This is an Italian 3.88 for a Type 1. This is so much nicer than the often noisy Chinese ring and pinion. They are not inexpensive at all but looks like it's the future.

Today's project. Early split case fully un-synchronized. This is an actual " crash box ". Most people call a split case a crash box but only the non-synchro are. It's very primitive in a great way. Check out the spider gears and two piece differential gears. Oh and the tip of the input shaft was ruined from rust. Had the shaft repaired and hard chromed. I'm very impressed with that.

This one I didn't get good pics of. The customer had everything polished or chromed. German 3.88, rhino case, Weddle 1-4. H/D axles , drilled and slotted rotors with Wilwood calipers.

The worst part was finding time to make a crate. I'm not a wood worker at all.

Another 5 speed. This one got the internals R.E.M. polished. It has a Quaife diff, new sliders, the best bearings, and a large amount of new parts.

Finished this baby yesterday. . Berg 5 speed. Quaife diff. Such a nice build. So many new parts. Of course it doesn't bolt right together and work. There is a ton of modifying to be done to get it to shift correctly and stuff to fit.

I am absolutely in numb mode. Yesterday we lost a legend in the VW community. Steve Tims was 73 years old. I can proudly say that he was my mentor, great friend, 2nd father at times, drinking buddy other times, and the person who originally showed me how to rebuild VW transmissions on top of engine building, and all phases of mechanics on these little cars. He was a natural mechanic who understood things in a way most people don't just by looking at them and could fix anything.

The history and memories are far too great to list. His VW racing and records that he set were a direct reflection of his knowledge and skill.

On top of his VW history, he was a great father and grandfather who was always involved in coaching youth athletics and even a board member/ president for Pop Warner football.

Steve will be greatly missed and never forgotten. I'm honored that I got to be a big part of this very special man's life since 1988

Earlier in the week. Mendeola drag trans. Converted 1st / 2nd to face plates. 3rd / 4th got changed to 002 style gears with floating synchro cones and slick shift. This one is headed to Hawaii

Class 11 off road transmissions going together for Crandon, Wisconsin world championship in 2 weeks. I have 4 I'm doing at the same time for various racers. All have Weddle main shafts and Folts T1 to 091 diffs. This one is R.E.M. polished and gorgeous.

Sorry I don't post much. I've been very busy. Today's fun project going to Hawaii. Gussetted Rhino case, aluminum gear carrier, all Weddle gears and R.E.M. polished. Very nice gearbox.

Domestic violence is real and often goes unreported. Not this time! Karma will prevail. My poor girl was woken up to a beating, a hospital stay, only to come home, mom flew to her state, got a moving truck, packed her things and drove 20 hours back to California. If you have donated already, thank you. It's not about money, it's about awareness. This young lady had to quit her job, leave her home, leave everything she worked for to start over. She'll come out on top but any help from friends sure would cushion the blow. It kills me to put my family issues out into public but Madison asked me to in the name of awareness.

This guy really hated first gear and reverse. This kind of abuse is abnormal. This must have been an off road vehicle and the guy got stuck. Maybe just a guy who doesn't respect the limits of his equipment.

Ernie powder coated rhino done today. Got going on Victor's (pics tomorrow), Damon's will get far tomorrow and ship Friday and got powder coating for Al back yesterday. Hopefully r.e.m. polishing comes back Friday.
